As a registered ShakeOut participant, we are among millions of people who will be participating in the largest earthquake drill in U.S. history on November 13! ShakeOut is an opportunity to practice how to protect ourselves in earthquakes, and to get more prepared. Please reach out to your friends, family, and colleagues and invite them to register. Get ready to ShakeOut but don't expect to call them soon after an earthquake. This summer's Chino Hills quake showed how cell and landlines can be quickly overwhelmed in even a minor tremor. The earthquake described in the ShakeOut Earthquake Scenario is 5,000 times bigger, and phones will not work for a much longer period of time. How will you communicate and reunite with those you care about? Learn how...

Upcoming ShakeOut Activities–ShakeOut Webinar (September 24, 10 a.m., Online): This free online presentation will show howemergency plans are being developed based on the ShakeOut. Pre-Registration is required. –The Science Behind the ShakeOut (September 24, 7 p.m., Irvine): Dr. Lucy Jones will present how theShakeOut Scenario was created and the consequences it describes. Learn more... –Other events are listed on the ShakeOut Calendar

Ground shaking during a magnitude 7.8 earthquake on the southern San Andreas fault; red indicates areas of strongest ground shaking.

At 10 a.m. on November 13, Lanterman Regional Center joins millions of Southern Californians in the ShakeOut Drill, the largest earthquake preparedness activity in U.S. history!

The Great Southern California ShakeOut includes the ShakeOut Drill and other events to help us get ready for big earthquakes, and to prevent disasters from becoming catastrophes. Our Focus will be on adult clients living independently in Burbank, CA. This blog is updated with new details of the LRC Drill and activities related to our participation on November 13. The Great Southern California ShakeOut is based on a potential magnitude 7.8 earthquake on the southern San Andreas Fault— approximately 5,000 times larger than the magnitude 5.4 earthquake that shook southern California on July 29. It’s not a matter of if an earthquake of this size will happen—but when, and and it is possible that it will happen in our lifetime.
